Nico and Marianne Havinga

Introduction

We are Nico, Marianne and Joshua Havinga from Heveadorp, the Netherlands.

Joshua loves to discover, observe and look at things. He is looking forward to experience special adventures with his sister and the other children on board!

Marianne has been involved in the Mercy Ships mission since 2009, both on board the Africa Mercy and ashore in Rotterdam. You can read more about her in this interview (interview is in Dutch but can be translated via Google Translate).

Nico visited the Africa Mercy in Benin back in 2009 and was impressed by the beautiful work of Mercy Ships. After a period of four months as a volunteer on the Africa Mercy (in 2018/2019), his heart continued to beat for this beautiful work and for the community on board.

What are we going to do?

We hope to live and work as volunteers on the Global Mercy for two years. It is our desire to give substance to our faith in a practical way and to help build the community on board.

Nico will fulfill the position of purser, more information about his position can be found here. Marianne will focus mainly on caring for our two children.

Where are we sailing?

For the first months we will live in Antwerp, where the ship will be fitted out and furnished. Then we sail via Rotterdam to Senegal, to provide as many patients as possible with medical care and to train local care workers.

Do you want to support us?

That is possible in different ways:

  • We know we depend on God and appreciate it if you want to pray for Mercy Ships’ work and for us. Prayer points can be found here.

We partly depend on donations to do the work on board. As a family we pay board and lodging and there are also other costs for insurance, for example. We have savings for part of this and we are looking for sponsors for the remaining amount (1,250 euros per month).
