Every year, 17 million people worldwide die from conditions that could have been treated with surgery.
That’s more than the number of deaths from AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Sometimes surgery was too expensive, not safe, or the necessary care simply wasn’t available.
We believe that everyone has the right to good healthcare.
Since 1978, Mercy Ships has been working to bring safe medical care to people who don’t have access to it.
On and around our hospital ships, the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, we provide free surgeries, train local medical staff, and collaborate with local clinics.
Our ships are staffed by volunteer professionals in more than 150 different roles, including maritime, medical, and technical personnel. Together, they work to make care possible for the poorest people and bring hope and healing.
